About Dermaroller

Dermaroller (also known as micro-needling) can be used to treat face and body and provides an effective way to reduce the visibility of lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and sun damage. It is a well-known, hugely popular treatment that gives outstanding results within four to six weeks.* Better still, your skin will continue to improve over the months that follow!

How many treatments will I need?

We generally recommend a course of four treatments (roughly one treatment every six weeks).

What is it used for?

The Dermaroller procedure can help improve the appearance of stretch marks (anywhere on the body), wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage, and acne scars.

What does the Dermaroller treatment involve?

To begin with, your Dr Leah practitioner will use a topical anaesthetic cream to numb your skin before treatment commences. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, the Dermaroller will be rolled over your skin, puncturing it with thousands of tiny micro-needles. By causing mild damage to your skin in this way, we trigger a healing process that rejuvenates the skin, encourages collagen production, and reduces the appearance of lines, wrinkles and imperfections.

Does it hurt?

Not very much - the anaesthetic helps to minimise any discomfort caused by the micro-needles.

How long will it take?

One Dermaroller session lasts for around 40 minutes, although this may vary depending on which part of your body we treat. For example, a hand or neckline treatment will take less time than a facial treatment.

Who is this procedure suitable for?

Dermaroller is suitable for all skin types. However, it can cause sensitive skin to become irritated, so it may not be appropriate for people who suffer from allergies. Before any treatment, you will be given the opportunity to consult with a member of the Dr Leah team; you can discuss any concerns you may have during this session.

Note: The Dermaroller is unsuitable for pregnant/breastfeeding women.

Full list of side effects, cautions and contraindications will be discussed at face to face consultation.

Downtime

The Dermaroller treatment comes with a very minimal recovery period; you will be able to resume your daily life almost straight away. You may notice some redness, but this should subside within 24 hours of the procedure.

Side Effects

Side effects are rare, and they seldom last for more than 48 hours. Patients commonly notice some redness post-procedure (not dissimilar to sunburn), but this should subside in a short time.

Aftercare

Avoid extreme temperatures (hot water, saunas, etc.) and unnecessary contact with the treated area for 48 hours after treatment. High factor SPF is essential post procedure and your practitioner may also recommend an optional soothing cream for your skin post-treatment.

"I cannot recommend this treatment or the Dr Leah Clinic highly enough, I came to the Clinic when it first opened in the hope of finding a treatment that would improve the appearance of indented scars on my face left from adolescent acne. I was given a friendly and thorough consultation by Dr Leah where we discussed my expectations and the various treatments available to me, I didn’t feel pressured to make a decision right away and considered my options for two weeks before deciding on the Dermaroller treatment. The procedure itself is not painful as you are prepped with numbing cream well before the treatment and the rolling itself is over within 30 minutes, you will find your face is a deep shade of red immediately after treatment but this improves to a rosy pink within an hour. I have very sensitive skin so I tend to take a few days longer to heal than most people but the redness from my face disappears completely within 4 days of each treatment and is undetectable during that time with a bit of foundation. I was given plenty of aftercare instructions and these have meant I’ve had a trouble free recovery from each session. I can particularly recommend using the Heliocare sunblock that the clinic sells as well. I have had 5 treatments at the clinic so far with breaks of 2 to 4 months before each session, results are gradual and it can take up to a year to see any significant difference but these sessions have had a dramatic effect on my scarring and not only lifted and smoothed a lot of my indentations but also lightened and completely removed some sun damaged dark spots . The results have had a huge impact on my self confidence and I’m eternally grateful to Dr Leah for that, I plan on continuing with this procedure at least once a year as a refresh. Finally I would like to say that all the staff at Dr Leah clinic are absolutely wonderful, they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome and are always happy to answer any questions you might have.
