How do you treat or get rid of seborrhoeic keratosis?

At Dr Leah Clinics we offer a variety of treatments for removal of keratosis lumps and bumps including:

  • Consultation and Assessment - You will meet with a certified cosmetics doctor who will discuss your skin concern. During this appointment, your doctor will take the time to understand your dermatology issue.  Our doctor will assess your skin lesion and note any medical conditions, medications, and allergies to recommend a treatment plan.
  • Treatment Plan - Following your consultation, our doctor will be able to advise you the best treatment path which will either be a Cryopen treatment, currate and cautery or surgical excision.
  • Treatment on the day - On the day of your consultation, it may be possible for treatment to be performed if you wish – or you can choose to rebook treatment for a time that is convenient for you or decide not to proceed with lesion removal on the day.
  • Cryopen Treatment: With Cryopen, our skilled professionals use a precise applicator to deliver controlled freezing temperatures to the seborrhoeic keratosis. This rapid freezing causes the lesion to peel away from the skin's surface over time, revealing smoother skin underneath. Recovery time is minimal, with any redness or irritation typically subsiding within a few days.

  • Currate and Cautery: In this procedure, the seborrhoeic keratosis is carefully scraped (currate) from the skin's surface and then cauterized to stop any bleeding. This method is effective in removing the lesion and ensuring minimal scarring. Recovery time is short, with most patients able to resume regular activities within a week.

  • Surgical Excision: Surgical excision involves the complete removal of the seborrhoeic keratosis using a scalpel or similar instrument. The area is then sutured, and the specimen may be sent for further examination. This method is ideal for larger or particularly stubborn growths. Recovery time for surgical excision may be slightly longer.

Seborrhoeic keratosis lumps have been shown not to be a type of skin cancer, though if you are worried about cancerous moles or lesions then you should contact a GP.
