How does BBL Laser work?

Our skin naturally contains several substances known as chromophores, including melanin, which gives skin its colour, and haemoglobin, which is found within blood vessels.

As we age and accumulate sun exposure, these structures can become more visible, resulting in pigmentation, redness and an uneven complexion.

BBL HERO uses carefully selected wavelengths of light that are absorbed by these target structures.

When the light energy reaches areas of excess pigmentation, it breaks down the unwanted melanin so that it can be naturally eliminated by the body's healing processes. When treating redness or visible blood vessels, the light gently heats the affected vessels, allowing the body to gradually absorb them over time.

At the same time, the controlled delivery of light stimulates the skin's natural regenerative response. This encourages renewed collagen production, helping to improve skin firmness, elasticity and overall texture in the months following treatment.

Because different treatment settings can be selected for different skin concerns, every BBL HERO treatment is tailored to the individual rather than following a standard protocol.

FAQs

Is BBL better than anti-wrinkle injections?

BBL HERO and anti-wrinkle injections treat different concerns, so one is not necessarily better than the other. BBL HERO is designed to improve skin quality by targeting pigmentation, redness and sun damage while stimulating collagen production. Anti-wrinkle injections work by relaxing specific facial muscles to soften expression lines. During your consultation, your doctor will assess your concerns and recommend the most appropriate treatment, or whether a combination of treatments may provide the best outcome.

What is better, BBL or microneedling?

Neither treatment is universally better, as they work in different ways. BBL HERO uses broad-spectrum light to improve pigmentation, redness and signs of sun damage, whereas microneedling stimulates the skin's natural healing response to improve texture, acne scarring and fine lines. The most suitable option depends on your skin concerns, complexion and treatment goals, which is why a personalised consultation is essential before proceeding.

Should I do microneedling or BBL first?

The ideal treatment sequence depends on your skin concerns and your doctor's assessment. If pigmentation or redness is your primary concern, BBL HERO is often recommended first to improve overall skin clarity. Microneedling may then be introduced to further enhance skin texture and stimulate collagen production. In some cases, both treatments can be incorporated into a personalised treatment plan, provided they are appropriately spaced.

Does BBL laser make you look younger?

BBL HERO can help the skin appear healthier and more youthful by improving uneven pigmentation, reducing redness and stimulating collagen production. While it does not stop the natural ageing process or replace surgical procedures, many patients notice brighter, smoother skin with a more even complexion. Results develop gradually, creating natural-looking improvements rather than an artificial or over-treated appearance.

How many rounds of BBL laser do you need?

The number of treatments varies depending on your skin condition, treatment goals and the concerns being addressed. While some patients notice visible improvements after a single session, a course of three to five treatments, spaced several weeks apart, is commonly recommended for optimal results. Your doctor will create a personalised treatment plan and advise whether maintenance sessions may help preserve long-term improvements.

Do age spots come back after BBL laser?

BBL HERO can successfully treat existing age spots caused by sun damage, but it cannot prevent new pigmentation from developing over time. Continued exposure to ultraviolet light and the natural ageing process may lead to additional pigmentation in the future. Protecting your skin with daily sunscreen and following a suitable skincare routine can help maintain your results for longer.

What happens to your face after BBL laser?

Immediately after treatment, your skin may appear mildly pink and feel warm, similar to a light sunburn. Areas of pigmentation often darken temporarily before naturally flaking away over the following one to two weeks. These changes are a normal part of the skin's healing process. Most patients can resume normal daily activities immediately, although careful sun protection is essential during recovery.

What can go wrong with BBL laser?

When performed by appropriately trained medical professionals following a thorough assessment, BBL HERO is considered a safe treatment for suitable candidates. As with any light-based procedure, temporary redness, swelling and pigment darkening are common. Less commonly, blistering, changes in skin pigmentation or prolonged redness may occur. A detailed consultation helps identify any factors that could increase the risk of complications and ensures treatment is appropriate for your skin.

Does BBL make your face peel?

Most patients do not experience significant peeling after BBL HERO treatment. Instead, pigmented areas often darken before naturally shedding over several days as the skin renews itself. Some people may notice mild dryness or fine flaking, but extensive peeling is uncommon. Your practitioner will provide personalised aftercare advice to support the healing process and maintain healthy skin.

How long will my face be swollen after BBL laser?

Any swelling following BBL HERO treatment is usually mild and temporary. Most patients notice slight puffiness for up to 24 to 48 hours, although this varies depending on the treatment area and individual skin response. Applying a cool compress, following your aftercare instructions and avoiding excessive heat or vigorous exercise during the first day can help minimise swelling.

How red is your face after BBL?

Most patients experience mild redness immediately after treatment, similar to the appearance of light sun exposure. This typically settles within a few hours, although some individuals may remain pink until the following day. The intensity of redness varies depending on the treatment settings and your skin type. Your practitioner will explain what you can expect during your consultation.

What does your face look like immediately after laser?

Immediately after BBL HERO treatment, your skin may look slightly pink or flushed and feel warm to the touch. Pigmented lesions often appear darker than before treatment, which is an expected part of the healing process. These darker areas gradually fade as the skin naturally renews itself. Most patients are comfortable returning to their usual activities shortly afterwards.

How to speed up BBL laser recovery?

Following the aftercare advice provided by your practitioner is the best way to support healing. Keep the skin well moisturised, avoid direct sun exposure, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and avoid excessive heat, vigorous exercise or harsh skincare products for the first few days. Allowing pigmented areas to flake away naturally without picking them also helps achieve the best cosmetic outcome.

Will my BBL get bigger after 6 weeks?

If you are referring to BBL HERO skin treatment, no. The treatment does not increase facial volume or cause the skin to become thicker over time. Improvements continue to develop gradually during the weeks following treatment as collagen remodelling occurs, resulting in smoother, healthier-looking skin. If you are referring to a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure, this is a completely different treatment and follows a different recovery process.

How to prepare for a BBL laser treatment?

Before treatment, your practitioner will advise you on how to prepare based on your skin type and medical history. In general, patients should avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning products and certain photosensitising skincare ingredients in the days leading up to treatment. Arriving with clean skin and following any personalised pre-treatment instructions helps ensure the safest and most effective outcome.

Is BBL similar to red light therapy?

Although both treatments use light energy, they work in very different ways. BBL HERO uses precisely controlled broad-spectrum light to target pigmentation, redness and visible signs of sun damage while stimulating collagen production. Red light therapy uses lower-energy wavelengths that primarily support cellular activity and tissue repair. The most suitable treatment depends on your individual skin concerns and desired results, which can be discussed during your consultation.
