At Dr Leah Clinics, we understand that your skin and facial contours evolve with every decade. From the first signs of volume loss in your 40s to deeper-set changes in your 60s, non-surgical cosmetic treatments can offer remarkable, clinically-proven results without the need for surgery.

Whether you're concerned about a sagging jawline, dull skin, or tired eyes, the right treatment should be tailored to your skin's condition, lifestyle, and age. Below, we guide you through the most effective options by decade, breaking down timelines, recovery, and results to help you make an informed choice.

Skin maintenance in your 40s

Your 40s is about early prevention and intervention. Common concerns in your 40s are when the first visible signs of aging start to appear such as:

  • Mild skin laxity, particularly around the jawline and cheeks. This occurs as collagen and elastin production begins to slow. Studies show collagen decreases by around 1% per year from your mid-20s. By your 40s, this cumulative loss can result in early sagging.
  • Dull or uneven skin tone arises from slower skin cell turnover and stressors such as work or your personal life, also some environmental stressors such as UV and pollution.
  • Early fatigue under the eyes: dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines. These are often caused by thinning under-eye skin.

The best treatments for skin sagging, under eyes and skin tone in your 40s

  • Morpheus8: Microneedling that penetrates deep into the dermis to stimulate new collagen and elastin production. This strengthens skin structure, improving early laxity in the lower face and jawline. Relatively non-invasive non-surgical treatment with little downtime.
  • Polynucleotides: These injectables repair skin at a cellular level, ideal for delicate under-eye tissue. They boost hydration, elasticity, and reduce signs of fatigue. They can also be used for smokers lines around the lips as they do not have a plumping effect like fillers.
  • Chemical Facials/ Peels (Obagi Blue Peel Radiance): Regular treatments improve brightness, exfoliate dead cells, and restore glow. Obagi Blue radiance peel is London’s most popular chemical peel, and works well on mature skin for reducing the appearance of fine lines.

"In your 40s, subtle but consistent treatment delivers the most natural-looking results. Collagen stimulation now will delay the need for more aggressive procedures later." – Dr Leah Totton

Skin health in your 50s

Your 50s is about structural support and skin rejuvenation, common concerns are hormonal changes (especially menopause in women) and accelerate skin ageing these often appear in these ways:

  • Moderate sagging of the jawline and neck due to deeper collagen loss and descent of facial fat pads.
  • Thinner, crepey skin caused by decreased oestrogen levels, which affect collagen and hydration.
  • Hollowing and dark circles under the eyes as orbital fat reduces and skin thins further.

The best treatment for sagging jawline, crepey eye skin and dark circles in your 50s

  • Thread Lifts (Silhouette Soft or PDO Threads): A thread lift is a non-surgical face lift that provides a lift by repositioning sagging tissues and stimulating collagen for longer-term improvement. Ideal for jawline and lower face definition.
  • Morpheus8: Remodels collagen and elastin, particularly effective when combined with threads for structural support and skin quality.
  • Exosomes or Polynucleotides under the eyes: Active ingredients that treat and reduce fine lines, increase elasticity, and improve under-eye tiredness.

"This is the decade where we focus on regenerative treatments that lift and firm while also improving skin texture and luminosity." – Dr Leah Totton

Skin rejuvenation in your 60s

Your 60s are about restoring lost volume and rebuilding elasticity. Common concerns include signs of ageing that are more pronounced due to the combined effects of intrinsic ageing and long-term environmental exposure such as:

  • Significant skin laxity (or jowling) of the jawline and neck as collagen scaffolding weakens over time.
  • Deeper wrinkles and volume loss, particularly in the mid-face, as fat pads shrink and shift downward.
  • Puffiness and sagging under the eyes from weakened orbital muscles and skin elasticity loss.

The best treatments for loss of skin laxity, deep wrinkles and hollow under eyes in your 60s

  • Thread Lifts + Polynucleotide Therapy: A powerful combination; threads reposition sagging tissue without the need for surgery, while polynucleotides regenerate skin quality for a refreshed appearance.
  • Exosomes and microneedling: Deliver growth factors and anti-inflammatory benefits, especially helpful for post-menopausal skin, which may be drier and slower to heal.
  • Morpheus8: Helps maintain firmness and reduce wrinkling through ongoing collagen stimulation.

"Combination therapy is key in your 60s. We look to restore architecture as well as skin vitality for a truly refreshed look." – Dr Leah Totton

Lanluma is the latest breakthrough in the field of aesthetic procedures, offering a revolutionary collagen-stimulating treatment. In this blog post, we will explore what Lanluma is, how it works, and why it's gaining popularity among those seeking natural-looking results without the need for surgery.

What is Lanluma?
Lanluma is a cutting-edge aesthetic treatment that uses collagen stimulation to rejuvenate and lift various areas of the body, including the buttocks, face, and hands. It's a non-surgical procedure that helps to restore lost volume, improve skin texture, and tighten sagging skin, resulting in a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

How does Lanluma work?
Lanluma is formulated with a bio-stimulating compound called polycaprolactone (PCL), which is a biocompatible and biodegradable material. When injected into the skin, PCL triggers the body's natural collagen production process. Over time, the PCL particles stimulate the production of new collagen, which helps to lift and tighten the treated area.

The results of Lanluma are gradual and natural-looking, as the new collagen continues to build and strengthen the treated area over several weeks to months. This makes Lanluma an excellent option for those who prefer a more subtle and gradual enhancement without drastic changes.

Benefits of Lanluma:
Non-surgical: Lanluma provides a non-surgical alternative to traditional surgical procedures, such as a facelift or butt lift. It's an ideal option for those who wish to avoid the risks and downtime associated with surgery.

Collagen stimulation: Lanluma stimulates the body's natural collagen production, which helps to restore volume, firmness, and elasticity to the treated area. This results in a more youthful and refreshed appearance without looking overly "done."

Versatility: Lanluma can be used to treat various areas of the body, including the buttocks, face, and hands, making it a versatile option for those seeking multiple areas of improvement.

Long-lasting results: The effects of Lanluma can last for up to 2 years, making it a cost-effective option for maintaining a youthful appearance without frequent touch-ups.

Minimal downtime: Unlike surgical procedures, Lanluma requires minimal downtime, allowing patients to resume their regular activities with minimal disruption to their daily lives.

Why choose Lanluma?
Lanluma has gained popularity in the beauty industry for its ability to provide natural-looking results without the need for surgery. It's a safe and effective treatment that offers long-lasting benefits, making it an excellent option for those who want to achieve a lifted and youthful appearance without going under the knife.

The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is one of our most sought-after chemical peel treatments. It is a straightforward, quick and effective way to achieve great skin. The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is a superficial peel for gentle exfoliation and rejuvenation.

How often can you do the Obagi Blue Peel?

Some clients have the Obagi Blue Radiance Peel as a one-off to refresh the skin or control breakouts, this is great for clients who want fast skin rejuvenation, unclog pores or an instant glow.

However, as it is a superficial peel a course of 3 to 6 treatments every 2-4 weeks apart is recommended to see the dramatic results or to treat skin conditions. For example, as a chemical peel for acne or a chemical peel for hyperpigmentation, you would need at least 3 treatments to combat these concerns.

How much does the Obagi Blue Peel cost?

Our Obagi Chemical peel is usually priced at £110 per peel or a course of 3 for £270.

We currently have a deal on a singular Obagi Blue Peel NOW ONLY £80 - this offer is only valid when booked in February 2022 so act fast to avoid disappointment!

Hundreds of thousands of people undergo liposuction every year. What if we tell you there is a way of losing fat without going under the knife?

Fat Freezing (Cryolipolysis) uses proven cooling technology to freeze fat cells, in a safe non-surgical way. Once these are frozen they then drain naturally from the body. You can see results of up to an inch of loss from just one, one-hour treatment.

What happens in a fat freezing treatment?

Our Fat Freezing treatment begins with a bespoke consultation with your expert cosmetic therapist who will assess your problem areas and inform you of the realistic expectations of Fat Freezing.

During your fat freezing treatment day, you should arrive wearing loose-fitting clothing for comfort purposes. The concerned area is then applied with a protectant gel pad which is followed by the vacuum fat freezing head. As the applicator vacuums, the area into the cooling panels you will feel a slight suctions as well as a cool sensation, this should be pain-free. There may initially be some tingling but this should subside as the area becomes numb. Fat cells are directly cooled which triggers their natural death, fat is especially susceptible to cold whereas skin and muscle are not.

Over the next few weeks after your fat freezing treatment, your body will begin to naturally drain the targeted fat cells. The remaining cells condense resulting in an overall reduction of the fat layer.

When you are finished there is zero downtime, you can return to work immediately after your fat freezing treatment. Results will begin to show within 8-12 weeks*.

If you are unsure whether fat freezing is appropriate for you, why not book a FREE consultation with one of our expert cosmetic therapists?
